Nearly 550-thousand pounds of ground beef are being recalled in New England because of links to illnesses from E. coli bacteria.

People have gotten sick in Maine, Connecticut and Massachusetts.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture says the recalled meat is from New York's Fairbank Farms, and is sold at many stores, including Shaw's.

Each package carried the number "EST. 492" inside the USDA inspection mark or on the nutrition label.
