As you all know I went into a
female surgery, had my tubes removed, the ovaries removed and a cyst
the size of a grapefruit removed and my uterus scraped.
Well, afterwards was a nightmare.
I had an awful time waking up big time!
I was awful out of it.. all I remember is being wheeled into the surgical room and put on the table and then that is it..
I was out...
We were there from 8a to after 4p because they could not get my oxygen levels up even with oxygen going through me. .
Why? Well I am a pack a day smoker.
And well, my husband had to stand there and keep waking me up when i go
to sleep and my oxygen levels would get to 40-50 I was heading for
respitory arrest and then would be cardiac arrest to death..
I would wake up.. cough a few times bring up some stuff and it would give me more oxygen to breathe.
And level off the oxygen levels.
The nurse told me why this was happening. She stated she went through the same thing.
And it scared me to reality..
I have three more surgeries to still do if not more for kidney stones, this is not what I want to experience anymore.
With my age and weight and smoking brings about an even higher risk.
So when the nurse told me that after her surgery and her being my age
then.. 44 years old.. a smoker and that she almost died doing the same
surgery as me.. and because they could not get the oxygen levels up..
she stopped smoking, she set a date, saw a hypnotist and has quit now
for a good 15 years and her daughter did the same thing. A friend today
told me that her neighbor did the same thing....and she has been off
of cigs for 10 years and has no desire to return to it.
Guess what I am going that route. I have done patches and pills and
this is my last resort. Quitting cold turkey is not an option.
On November 11th or so before that date maybe I am quitting smoking.
Why that date. It is my 12th anniversary and my son's birthday.. that
is my birthday gift to my son.
I cannot see losing my life for some habit that I do love I love the
taste of a cigarette and I do love the feeling I get from it.
the relaxation and all.. but is it worth my life? And watching my
husband almost in tears because I was dying that day? No it is not
worth it to me.
My hubby had tears in his eyes as he is telling me how he almost lost
me this week to my habit and not getting enough oxygen levels.
So I am done smoking on this day.. Why not sooner? I am not ready. I have to get ready for it.
I have to find a good hypnotist here in Maine and get the appointment
set up. Which I am going to do and talk to my doctor as well about this
as well.
But other then that I am a little groggy between percocets and Ibuprofen and a little bloated and in a lot of pain.
It feels like things are moving about in there because I have a space now lol :)
Which I would not of had before. But I must admit I am feeling better then I thought I would of.
So no complications other then that.
We got my oxygen levels up and I was released. They were going to keep
me over night and empty my lungs of all the junk in them but I was able
to cough it up between all the tummy pain. Believe me it is painful
indeed.. although I may be fighting a nasal sinus infection I am done
with smoking all the same this scared me and my hubby and even my son
too much. I could feel the oxygen problem as well..
Hard of breathing and all and I am going to start walking if nothing
else when I do this as well. Hubby is getting me a treadmill and on
good days I am going to the mall in the area and walk as well in the
morning.
Every morning so I can start losing weight.
So just had to share all this with you as you all have been good
friends of mine for a long time and had to share it with some good
friends :)
Thanks all of you for listening.
Good for you! Take control! You can do it! What a wonderful gift for yourself as well as your husband and son. They need you around! Whenever you want a cig, jump on here and find something to research! :) That'll keep you busy!
A good tip I heard for the walking is to get a CD walkman and borrow audiobooks from your library. Then ONLY listen to that book when you're engaged in exercise. If you get really into a book, you might just walk that extra 5 minutes that it takes to finish a chapter etc and every second counts!
GOOD LUCK!!!!!
Wonderful idea there Summer I think I will do that!
I never get time to read books and this way I will have the time!
Thanks for the tip!
It is appreciated!
No problem. I'll recommend The Time Traveler's Wife if you haven't read it!
