They'll be back. Just make sure you set some ground rules for sticking around, and be very specific about which ones you're talking too when things get out of hand.
Kaspr is right they will be back.. don't worry you are their light and they cannot leave you long.. but Kaspr is right set up some ground rules.. so they don't drive you and your family insane. And it is normal to feel lonely as you had conversed with them so much nothing wrong with that but remember to stay in your realm and not get too involved in their realm either.. they are dead and gone and don't need to know about our realm, just keep them at bay still.. and be specific with your rules.. and who they can bug and what not..
But I am happy that your hubby has come to terms with stuff about you, hey he married you for better and for worse.. you know?
So here is the worse honey or the better however you picture it! :)
but as I stated before he would come around but he is right only speak of it with us or with yourselves, and be careful whom you speak too, I tell my son the same thing not everyone understands...
Hi loveandfaith,
It is a difficult lonely road at times. I can really appreciate your comments/ struggles.
I do not fault christian-based religions for the lack of understanding. There is good reason for them to get nervous/frightened when people start talking about ghosts. If you admit to being able to hear/speak to ghosts- its even more frightening. The Bible warns against this - so in my experience, people with a christian-based belief system typically are afraid ghosts are evil entities in disguise. People who do not subscribe to this belief/practice are more likely to believe ghosts are a figment of our imagination, creatures from other dimensions or something else.
What is unacceptable, is the lack of support or "shunning" you experienced.
It is my firm belief that the Earth is for the living- not the dead. The fact that they (spirits) are trying to distract you from your family implies a disregard for you and your earthly responsibilities. I do not trust personal conversations with spirits, and do not participate in this practice on a personal level. I believe that we are meant to form and nurture relationships with living people. Be suspicious of anything that pulls you away from this. (just my opinion)
With practice, you can learn to block paranormal interaction, but you will need to set up some ground rules and stick to them. Over time, spirits get the hint. Remember, they cannot control you, you have zero obligation to them (gift from God or not), and if it is interfering with family life, personal life, work, etc. etc then be suspicious.
You are NOT alone. You have my cell#- call anytime.
Whitelight that is the best advice I have ever heard thank you for sharing and kudos to you that you are so supportive to everyone here I love it! :)
But Whitelight is so right and I can agree with her. Anyone with this problem please read Whitelight's reply it is very enlightening and remember you can control your gifts. Our family does as overwhelming as it may get. It can be controlled.
Thank you again whitelight for being here and the wonderful post :)
Whitelight, I can be numbered among those people with a christian-based belief system; my own experience tends to make me very cautious about spirits in general.
I do recognize that spirits may be just what they seem to be; human beings [or some part or reflection thereof].
There are passages in the bible which point to the belief in "ghosts" even among the disciples of Jesus. For example:
"And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid."
[ Matthew 14:25-27 ]
And there is the famous passage in the old testament, in which the witch of Endor raised the prophet Samuel at the prompting of Saul.
I absolutely believe in the existence of angels, both faithful and rebel, as beings created by God.
John, in the fourth chapter of his first epistle, says:
"Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God...."
["try" here meaning "test" ]
Of course, as with much of scripture, there are multiple ways one could interpret these passages and verses, and I have heard from the pulpit some pretty mundane interpretations of passages like these.
It's always surprising to me just how many self-professed christian people seem to reject the world of spirit in any "real" sense.
I have another experience to relate.
I was not a little boy when this happened; this occured about 3 or 4 years ago.
As with much regarding spirits, it's highly subjective; I wish someone had been in the room with me, so I could compare notes...but I was alone.
I was working at home, and as sometimes happens, I was slowly becoming irritated; I don't recall over what.
Before long, irritation grew into agitation, and soon agitation was ballooning into anger, and some very dark thoughts.
I began to become aware of this in a way I can't quite explain; almost in a detached sort of way, like it was happening not to me, but to someone else, and I was a separate person observing it unfold.
At the same time I became aware of a smell in the room. A strong, foul odor, like the smell of very rotten meat. Like decay and death. It was close to me, like something had died and was rotting on the floor right behind me.
Well, that shook me loose, so to speak, and I began to pray. I don't remember, now, the words I spoke, but I do remember that I had not prayed long at all before the foul odor vanished.
And all of the irritation, agitation, anger, and dark thoughts vanished with it.
And immediately there was another smell.
The smell of flowers.
It didn't last long, but it was very distinct, and it was strong. It was that fresh, sweet, clean smell of real flowers. It lingered just a short time, no more than five or ten seconds, and then was gone.
I remember wishing it would stay; it stirred up a sense of longing in me.
I never had an experience like that before, and I've not had one like that since.
I have my own thoughts as to what happened that day, and it solidified some of the opinions I have concerning the unseen world.
Thank you Lynne- I try to help. I can only offer my opinion and suggestions and pray it helps.
Fred-
Thank you for sharing this story. It must have been so frightening. Why do these things always happen when we are ALONE! UGH!
I almost fell off my chair when you described smelling flowers! I am so happy to read this. I am not sure if I already posted this , so my apologies in advance for boring the crap out of any of you, but a few years ago, I had an experience that was absolutely terrifying and I was finally at my wits-end with all of it. I prayed so hard to make this just stop. I too smelled flowers. I recognized the scent as Lilies of the Valley. The entire room was filled with this strong fragrance, and I remember feeling similar to you- peaceful, and comfortable, familiar and safe.
I also did not want the fragrance to fade. The negative activity stopped that same night.
I looked up the meaning of Lilies of the Valley and a few caught my attention; "return of happiness", "you've made my life complete"- both had significance. Interestingly, supposedly, this flower protects against evil spirits when planted in gardens.
Fred, gotta be honest- you've got some pretty creepy stories yourself! Thank you for sharing!
That is an awesome story Fred wow what experiences you have had. Thank you for sharing with us.
At least that one had a wonderful ending. both of your stories. Would you say that was the beginning of a possession? Maybe? Or something?
Sounds like it. But at least you were able to come out of it well and safe.
Both of you.
I once had a fragrance at work, it was roses but could never figure out why and I was the only one smelling it. In a poster warehouse of all places no ideas why just did.. it was wierd..
In the Amytiville case, the owners of the house actually tried planting Lillies of the Valley to ward off whatever was in the house. But since it was a "human" spirit they didn't have any effect. But they do seem to be quite effective with the nastier side of inhuman phenomena.
Lynne, I can't say what it was. I'm confident that I'm not possessed by any evil spirit, but none of us is beyond being harassed; these things have to be nipped in the bud, before they get out of hand.
It only takes a tiny flame to start an inferno.
Ever read "The Screwtape Letters" by C. S. Lewis?
It's a work of fiction, but it has some very interesting insights.
Whitelight, that's it exactly; a feeling of peace came at once with the smell of flowers; a stark contrast to the sensation and the stench of just a moment before.
I can't identify the flowers; it may have been Lily of the Valley [which is also the title of a hymn from the 1800s, by the way ], or it may have been some other.
If spirits manifest in the material world in a way which can be seen, and can be heard, there's no reason to think they won't also appear in a way that can be smelled.
If we humans were bloodhounds or bears [which have a far more sensitive nose than any dog ], we'd probably give greater weight to odors than to images, and apparitions would probably come more often in the form of a cloud of scent or reek.
I can't help but wonder if a malevolent spirit *must* reveal itself in some way, if it exerts its influence in a forceful way, or if it *delights* in revealing itself, for whatever disquiet or fear it can generate in its target.
Whatever the rules may be, *fear* is the wrong response.
"Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." [James 4:7]
Well Spirit, I hope you are not possessed now, but at the time I think something was trying to do so anyways, you fought it and you were fine.
I will have to remember the lillies of the valley..
I do like the colour of them they are a pretty flower. And I don't care for flowers except for black roses :) go figure!
Well, you can always talk to us, Love. But sometimes, that does happen, if you felt like you were being pressured to be "normal" then sometimes we supress our gifts. If you want them to come back, just start to focus on them and ask them to come back. It is normal to feel alone when the spirits are no longer with you. It's a part of you that you have lived with and it's like loosing a big part of your life.
And on another note. Right now, I've been smelling cig smoke... no one in this house have EVER smoked... that's all I'm getting. I'm going to try and focus in on it.
Spiritquest-
Interesting thoughts. I am not sure if any paranormal team has explored spirit scents? Probably kaspar could help out on this one.
Hey, I'll trade in my totally possessed recorder (sorry Julie ;-0) , for a smell 'o meter-
It is common for people to experience the smell of a loved one after they have passed.....some smell aftershave, flowers, pipe tobacco? Things that would be recognized as connected to the loved one. Some haunted places report occasional smells also that do not seem to have any origin whether they be perfume, smoke, blossoms etc............And they contribute these smells to people of the past just letting the living know they are still around.........
It usually has to do with the sense of smell being the most powerful sense to invoke nostalgia. So it's possible that the spirit is using it's most emotionaly connected tool to communicate.
And if I remember my catholic upbringing correctly, holy water is made with rose water, which may be the association with the flower smell with a sort of holy intervention.
Hmm interesting stuff guys thanks for sharing.. Whitelight a Smell O Meter?? Give them time I am sure there will be one made in a few months! LOL They are coming out with so much new stuff to find the spirits and see that they are there.
Thanks again for the information on that never thought of the Holy Water smell I was little last time I really was in Catholic Churches :)
Sooo don't remember the smell just smelled odd to me but as I think of it Roses is about what it smelled like.. and I hate the smell of roses
Thanks Lisa & Jim for the "smelly info" ![]()
I don't know if rose water was ever used in the past. It is not used now. It actually can just be tap water that has been blessed by a priest. Have to say....there ain't nothing holy about anyones tap water! (smiles)
I have a question, not to bring us off topic, but it's going to lol...
What is the most haunted town in Maine? I mean like, does it give many people issues or ?
Umm start that question in another Post honey so that way we can all see it and answer you...
Yah Kaspr Hudson's Water here ICKY.. the people up front have a SMELLY smell too that is not too pleasant ours does not smell just nasty tasting.. icky...
But I agree with whitelight.. any tap water blessed is useable now a days..
But I do remember the rose water smell when I was little in Catholic Church.. it smelled good too :)
I am so glad that I have found this forum. I do not call myself psychic or anything, but I have experienced my fair share of activity. Here is my backstory:
As a child I always told my parents that I saw angels and fairies. They thought I was just being imaginative. I used to describe people by colors: So-n-So is pink and yellow, etc. I saw my first ghost when I was about 2, as far as I remember. When I was really young I had a dream about being in a car and looking up and seeing a street sign and driving to this grayish blue house with turkey cages out front. I thought nothing of this dream until years later (when I was 10 or 11). My family was going to Salem, Mass to visit one of my mom's college friends. My mother had never been to her house, and thus I hadn't. We got lost and I happened to look up at the street sign. I said, "I know where we are." My parents told me that I couldn't as I had never been to Salem before. I insisted that I did and to fancy me they listened to my directions. I brought them straight to the friends' house, which was grayish blue. This friend raised turkeys and had their cages out front. Since that experience I have had many more, including seeing spirits (see my thread on Haunted Houses), knowing things that were going to happen in the future (including peoples' deaths), and being able to direct drivers in places (including Washington D.C.) that I have never been.
Another experience I had was dealing with a friend who has had a troubled life. This girl had a lot of evil spirits and other beings attached to her. Another "sensitive" friend and I worked together to rid her of some of these piggybackers. Being a beginner at this, I did not understand what I was doing. My other friend has been doing this for years and did not inform me of the process he was using. He was using me as a catalyst and a vessel. When he touched me, forming a channel between the friend and me, I started shaking uncontrollably, got really nauseous, and was having bad visions. I started screaming, but my friend didn't stop. The friend we were helping's aura totally changed from dark murky colors to bright beautiful ones. That night I had many nightmares and when I woke up I saw this dark figure fly towards me. I quickly did a cleanse on myself and informed my friend that if he ever did something like that to me again I would never participate in anything with him. Since then I have been able to surpass this friend in my abilities and have learned that the way he went about this cleansing was wrong and have taught him the proper way to help cleanse.
I am Catholic and have been raised in the church. I feel as though whatever abilities I have were given to me by God and should be used for God. Jesus did tell his followers that he would bestow gifts on them, and I feel as though I have received many of those promised gifts.
Sorry this is so long. It is only a glimpse of what sort of things I have experienced. I keep a journal of any of my experiences and this is only some of the highlights.
