I am actually writing a theory on the soul entitled "soul fracturing." It deals with all aspects of the soul. A brief overview of parts of the theory are (please, although I trust the members of this group, remember that this is copy written material under my name) that the soul consists of many different parts (conscious, subconscious and unconscious, internal and external primarily). The external includes the conscious, subconscious and unconscious parts, and the internal is primarily conscious and subconscious. The external pieces break off throughout your life (think of how your skin is always replenishing itself). Generally the unconscious falls off where ever you go (that is how someone can sense your presence even after you have left a room). But the conscious pieces only fall off at certain times of great emotion (either good, like a wedding, or bad, like a rape) sometimes the conscious parts fall off at death or just before death (as your soul is preparing to leave this world and death is often one of the most traumatic parts of life). Your soul is constantly replenishing itself (so don't be concerned that your soul is breaking and falling apart and that by the age of 30 you only have half the soul you started with or something). However, after you die, these pieces of the soul that have fallen off now inherit some of the life that you once had (when you are fully alive, living and breathing, the part of the soul attached to your physical body holds all the life and after you die, it releases it). That is why people see your ghost after you die, and also why people will have claimed to see the same person in more than one location. The conscious soul becomes the ghosts that are able to communicate somewhat, walk, or be interactive. The subconscious soul pieces become stationary and sometimes not as well developed. The unconscious soul are those flashes of light or orbs or ecto plasmas that are not distinctive and cannot communicate with the living world. However, as the form of the soul is made physical by light and, sometimes, sound waves, eventually it dies out (why you might see a ghost in the same place for years and then all of a sudden there is no more activity). Evil or bad ghosts can be caused by the intention of the person at the time that part of their soul broke away: if the person was committing a murder, than that part of the conscious soul may appear to be evil or bad as its purpose at the time was evil.

This is just a theory on the average "wandering ghost." There are also ways for spirits to come back, passing through time and space to communicate or associate with the living world. These are generally messengers who come with a purpose, whether good or bad.

By helping a ghost cross-over, one is helping the soul fragment join with the rest of the soul (the internal portion that must stay with the body until death and then is released to the afterlife). This is actually helpful (even though the soul can exist in the after life without all its pieces) because it helps the soul be more whole in the afterlife. That piece of the soul is no longer "wandering". When the conscious portion falls off and the person dies, releasing the life into that part of the soul, the portion may be able to communicate a concern the person had either at the time they left that piece (such as screaming from a traumatic fight) or at the time of their death (a woman asking to tell her child she loved them), as the conscious soul is able to extend from the internal to the external there is shared communication between the two.

I do hope this is not too confusing. I have a 200 page essay written on this theory and trying to summarize 200 pages at 10:30 at night right before finals week is more challenging than I thought. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Also, if you have any ideas of your own, please let me know. I hope to publish this theory eventually, and you will be credited for your contribution.

Why don't you e-mail it to the group, and we can dissect and refine some things for you. You're starting to get into a theory about the de-evolution of spirits that has been around for a while.

Here it is in a fairly simplified nutshell. When a person dies their spirit only has enough kinetic energy to manifest itself as a full bodied apparition for a certain number of times. Then it can only manifest as a partial apparition. After that it can only manifest as a mist, and then only as an orb. I myself am not so sure how much I buy into the theory, but it is one that's out there.
